Development of Environmentally Friendly Technology for Municipal Solid Waste Gasification

Technology for Municipal Solid Waste GasificationPeriod: 2004-2005

Project summary: The technology for gasification of biomass and municipal solid waste (MSW) with minimal impact upon environment has been developed and investigated.

Financing: The Science and Technology Centre in Ukraine (STCU).

Main project parameters

Nominal capacity: 50 kW;
Fuel: wood residues, MSW, peat;
Composition of dry producer gas: СО — 29%, Н2 — 38%, СН4 — 7%, СО2 — 25%, other substances - up to 1%.

Main advantages

Producer gas with average heating value of 12-13 MJ/Nm3 is produced. The gas can be used as fuel including possibility of power production. Gasificstion and fine cleaning of producer gas allows to avoid dioxins formation.

Innovativeness

The entire process is originally separated into two zones: gasification of biomass/MSW and combustion of charcoal. Inert material as a heat carrier circulates between two zones.
