Seventh framework program of the European commission: Biomass Energy Europe

Period: 1 March 2008 - 30 November 2010.
The overall objective of the project “Biomass Energy Europe” is to improve the accuracy and comparability of future biomass resource assessments for energy by reducing heterogeneity, increasing harmonization and exchanging knowledge.

Major targets and milestones:
  • the analysis of the results of biomass resource assessment, leading to a deep understanding of the dimension of varying results of such assessments
  • the analysis of data and methods used in these assessments, and an analysis of the state-of-the-art of methods and available datasets
  • a description of methods, approaches (proposal of best practices, data hand book) and measures that improve the reliability and comparability of biomass resource assessments for energy
  • the demonstration and validation of approaches for harmonized assessments in case studies for EU-27, the Pan-European area and selected national assessments
  • the integration of all project results and experiences into the proposal of best practices, and final recommendations on future R&D and for improvements on data issues
