Territorial distribution of unused forest biomass in Ukraine

In Ukraine current biomass to energy utilization makes 777 Ih. t c.e. - mainly fire wood and wood waste. For further development of biomass to energy activity data about lUtused resources of forest biomass are needed. According to our estimation forest cutting residua makes 1.6 min. cu. m fyear, in wood processing wood waste arising has been estimated as 1.55 min. cu. m and additionally 0.56 min. cu. m of bark annually. Total potential annual resources of wood waste, firewood, and surplus of technological timber can make 7.6 min. cu. m. Unused wood waste resources make 223 tho cu m according to statistical reports and 2858 tho cu. m according to presented research. The largest resources of unused wood waste can be expected in the Rivne, Zhytomyr, L'viv, Ivano-Frankivs'k, Chemihiv, Kyiv, Zakarpats'ka, Chemivtsi, and Volyns'ka oblasts. Wood waste usage in the Zhytomyr, the Rivne, the Kyiv, and the Volyns'ka oblasts may be considerably complicated by necessity to have their radiological inspection ( Download .pdf )
