We are greening the future!

uabioconf 2019 organizers support uaWe are happy to invite You to the annual International Conference "BIOMASS FOR ENERGY 2019"!

Date: September 24-25, 2019
Event location: Kyiv, Ukraine, great conference hall of the NASU

Main topics:
• Strategy and policy issues.
• Bioenergy projects financing.
• Production of thermal and electric energy from solid biofuels and municipal solid waste: technologies and successful case studies.
• Biomass resources: production, pretreatment, supply, and logistics. Energy crops.
• Biogas: technologies and successful case studies.

We offer you cooperation within the framework of BIOPLAT-EU project: "Promoting Sustainable Use of Underutilized Lands for Bioenergy Production through a Web-Based Platform for Europe" of the European Program "Horizon 2020 – Competitive Low Carbon Energy".

Through a web-based platform (www.bioplat.eu) the BIOPLAT-EU project will promote and support the uptake of sustainable bioenergy projects on marginal, underutilized and contaminated lands (MUC lands). These lands cannot be used for food production or for recreational and conservation purposes, but in some cases, they still retain the potential to produce biomass for non-food and non-feed purposes (willow, poplar, miscanthus, etc.).

A web-based platform will include a map of areas unsuitable for agricultural production in Europe and in Ukraine and a public user-friendly tool using global information system that will assess the environmental, social and techno-economic sustainability aspects of defined value chains for bioenergy production on these lands.

In case of cooperation with the Project you will:
    • get access and support for using the web-based platform with a map of MUC lands and an online tool for assessing the sustainability aspects of defined value chains for bioenergy production on these lands. The platform will be a core source of information and utility related to this topic for stakeholders as all the existing data will be downloadable for free.
    • get the provision of technical support on aspects linked to biomass production and processing, market access, management and access to finance, etc.
    • take part in technical excursions and seminars in the framework of the Project.

The second FORBIO project webinar is devoted to the results of the sustainability assessment of the bioenergy chains in the project site in Ukraine. The sustainability assessment was conducted for the 2nd generation bioethanol production from specially cultivated bioenergy crops by the FORBIO project partner: the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

Within the framework of the Webinar will be also presented the results of the discussion on the barriers of the bioenergy chain implementation at the site of the FORBIO project in Ukraine. The webinar will be interesting for project developers, academics, investors and other organizations and experts interested in assessing impacts from bioenergy value chains.

Webinar starts: September 12, 17:00 (Kyiv time).

Language: Ukrainian.

Substitution of fossil fuels with agrobiomass can be a very promising option for the decarbonisation of the heating sector, especially in rural areas. AgroBioHeat is a new EU project funded through Horizon 2020 that aims to provide a comprehensive platform for overcoming barriers and support the market uptake of agrobiomass heating.

The FORBIO project webinar is prepared under the guidance of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) for project developers, researchers, investors and other organizations and experts interested in assessing the impacts from bioenergy chains of value added.

Within the framework of the webinar, the adapted set of Global Bioenergy Partnership (GBEP) sustainability indicators prepared within the framework of the FORBIO project and the methodology for assessing the sustainability of the case study sites in the FORBIO target countries (Germany, Italy and Ukraine) will be presented.

Date and time: September 7, 11:00 - 12:00 (Kyiv time).
Language: Ukrainian.

Скільки днів Україна може розраховувати тільки на біоенергетику

In April 20-21 2018, in the Odessa region, with the assistance of the Bolgrad City Council on the basis of the vineyards LLC "Agrotrans", a mini-plant for the production of biomass briquettes "Izmail Production Company" LLC in the village of. Kamyanka Izmailsky district and with the assistance of objects of social sphere in the city of Bolgrad, demonstration projects of grapevine energy use in solid fuel boiler houses had been held. The event was organized by SEC Biomass – UABio member together with Association "Ukrainian Agribusiness Club" within the framework of the project "uP_running – sustainable supply of woody biomass from agrarian pruning and plantation removal" funded by the European Union Research and Innovation Program Horizon 2020.

The vine energy use topic caused a great interest in the local community, including business representatives. About 21% of the total area of grape-bearing planting area in agricultural enterprises is concentrated in the Bolgrad region. So, the Bolgrad region is a leader in the areas of vineyards in the Odessa region. During the annual cuttings from each hectare of vineyards formed from 2.2 to 4.4 tons of vine, which according to fuel characteristics is similar to wood. In 2015, the area of grape-bearing planting in agricultural enterprises was 3840 hectares, and the annual economic energy potential of the cuttings from these plantations was estimated by experts of the NGO "Renewable energy Agency" as 5167 tons of conventional fuel. At present, the available resources of this biomass are not used, the vine is harvested on heaps near vineyards and burned.

The FORBIO InfoDay and Capacity Building Event was attended by about 50 participants, among them: representatives of agrarian companies, farmers, representatives of scientific institutes of agrarian and technical direction, as well as representatives of business and consulting.

The seminar was opened by the member of the Auditing Committee of the Bioenergy Association of Ukraine – Tetyana Zhelezna, who spoke about the current state and prospects of bioenergy development in Ukraine and the agrarian biomass potential and prospects.

During the Info Day, the participants were able to learn more about agriculture biomass briquetting in Ukraine, the possibilities of corn for grain harvesting for energy use, the prospects for the biofuel market creation in Ukraine, and about biogas energy sector.

Also, in the framework of the discussion "Energy Culture from Growing to Use" were disscused issues of choosing an energy culture for cultivation; purchase of planting material; features of growing energy crops; collection and storage of biomass energy crops; energy use of biomass energy

Info day will be held within the framework of the International Agricultural Exhibit Fest AGROSHOW Ukraine 2018

Organizers: Bioenergy Association of Ukraine, Scientific Engineering Center "Biomass".

In April 3 2018, in the Nova Oleksandrivka village in Zgurivsky district of the Kyiv region, a demonstration project on the energy use of wood from gardens pruning was implemented on the basis of "MAIS" LLC.

In extensive apple gardens over 40 years old with a density of 156 trees/ha, trimmed manually every three years, from 7 to more than 10 t/ha of wood is formed. The workers cut the trees and put the branches in a roll in the middle of the line. Further, using a shredder aggregate to the tractor, the wood is cut into pieces up to 13 cm in size, which is immediately packed in bags. The full bags are loaded into a tractor-trailer and transported to storage areas or directly to the boiler houses. Within the radius of 5 km from the gardens, there are two objects with solid fuel boilers, which can use pruning biofuel: "Olvin Plant" LLC and Novo-Aleksandrovsky Educational Complex.

At the same time, Nova Oleksandrivka village has an additional local biomass potential for energy use. In the village vicinity, there are significant volumes of additional wood, including old gardens. To use it, it is necessary to increase the productivity of the value chain. This will provide an additional source of income for growers and create new jobs.

Due to a resource-saving approach to using existing biomass in Nova Oleksandrivka village, the villagers have changed the attitude towards using uprunning wood from gardens. Today, in the village, gardens prunings is an energy resource that is already being used successfully for the heating of social facilities and for the production of thermal energy for industry.
