SEC "Biomass" experts Olha Haidai and Yevhen Oleynik participated in the program "Open World", funded by the US Congress (supported by the Open World Leadership Center) and enables young professionals to visit the United States for the purpose of short-term training. This year a delegation of nearly 50 people had the opportunity to learn the US experience in the field of energy independence, energy efficiency and renewable energy sources.
Bioenergy4Business is a project funded by the Horizon 2020 Framework Programme of the European Union. Bioenergy4Business involves partners from twelve EU Member States and Ukraine.
The Horizon 2020 project Bioenergy4Business (B4B) aims at supporting and promoting the (partial) substitution of fossil fuels (such as coal, oil, gas) used for heating with available bioenergy sources (such as by-products of the wood-based industry, forest biomass, pellets, straw and other agricultural biomass products) in the project partnersā countries and beyond.
The Ph.D. thesis on āHydrodynamics and heat transfer during landfill gas extraction from the porous media of municipal solid waste dump and landfillā has been successfully defenced by Kutsyi Denis (biogas technology department) on October 30, 2014.
Bioenergy Association of Ukraine will organize a seminar on "Practical aspects of energy production from biomass" on 20 November 2014 from 10:00 to 13:00 in a frame of the National Specialized Trade Show and Forum Ā«Independent Heat-and-Power EngineeringĀ», which will be held November 19-20, 2014, KyivExpoPlaza venue (2B, Salyutna st.)
A workshop and study tour on renewablesā solutions was held from 13th to 17th October 2014 for a delegation of 10 high-level Ukrainian stakeholders. The study tour, which was organized by the Austrian Energy Agency and co-financed by the CEI Know-How-Exchange Program and the Austrian Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management, aimed to present and discuss successful renewable energy developments and solutions with a special focus on biomass. Participants of the study tour ranged from high-level representatives of the State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine, the Bioenergy Association of Ukraine, the Scientific Engineering Center āBiomassā, the Renewable Energy Agency and of the UNIDO project team in Ukraine.

Ninth position paper of UABio "State of the art and prospects for bioenergy development in Ukraine" was published by SEC Biomass. To a great extent, Position Paper N 9 uses and compiles results of Position Papers 1-8, and suggests an integral conception of the sector development on their basis.
Eighth position paper of UABio "Energy and environmental analysis of bioenergy technologies" was published by SEC Biomass.
Position Paper N 8 is another one in a series of the planned publications on the major issues of bioenergy development in Ukraine. The Paper covers the issue of energy efficiency of different bioenergy technologies and also includes assessment of GHG balance when replacing fossil fuels with biomass.
Staff of SEC Biomass, BAU and IET NASU attended a rally in support of the actions of the Ukrainian government to overcome the internal crisis and external security threats to country territorial integrity, as well as condemning Russia's military aggression against Ukraine.
