Scientific Engineering Centre “Biomass”

We are greening the future!

Ninth position paper of UABio "State of the art and prospects for bioenergy development in Ukraine" was published by SEC Biomass. To a great extent, Position Paper N 9 uses and compiles results of Position Papers 1-8, and suggests an integral conception of the sector development on their basis.

Eighth position paper of UABio "Energy and environmental analysis of bioenergy technologies" was published by SEC Biomass.
Position Paper N 8 is another one in a series of the planned publications on the major issues of bioenergy development in Ukraine. The Paper covers the issue of energy efficiency of different bioenergy technologies and also includes assessment of GHG balance when replacing fossil fuels with biomass.

Staff of SEC Biomass, BAU and IET NASU attended a rally in support of the actions of the Ukrainian government to overcome the internal crisis and external security threats to country territorial integrity, as well as condemning Russia's military aggression against Ukraine. The rally was held on March 6 at 12.00 near the building of the Institute of Electrodynamics of NAS of Ukraine, Kiev, Peremogy Avenue 56. Meeting was attended by over 250 people. Photo review see by the next link.

Seventh position paper "Prospects for the use of agricultural residues for energy production in Ukraine" was prepared and published by staff of SEC Biomass.

Position Paper N7 by the Bioenergy Association of Ukraine is another one in a series of the planned publications on the major issues of bioenergy development in Ukraine. The Paper covers an issue of possibility of using plant residues of agriculture for energy production in Ukraine. Such points as generation of cereal straw, residues of grain corn (maize) production and sunflower production as well as existing areas of the residues utilization and preconditions for their use for energy production are analyzed in the Paper.

SEC "Biomass" takes part in the International specialized exhibition  Energy-saving equipment and alternative energy sources "ISTWE", which will be held in Kyiv at KyivExpoPlaza Exhibition Center (2-B, Salytna str.), on April, 1 - 3, 2014. Within the exhibition SEC "Biomass", Bioenergy Association of Ukraine (UABio) and Limited Liability Corporation joint German-Ukrainian venture of the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences of Ukraine "Agroinkom" will organize a seminar on "Practical aspects of energy production from biomass" on 2 April 2014 from 10:30 to 15:00.

Bioenergy is one of leading trends in energy generation from renewable energy sources in the world. It is also valid for Ukraine with its high-level dependence on imported natural gas and with its rich biomass resources. The 9th International Conference on Biomass for Energy held recently in Kiev offered the platform for discussing topics of what may promote development of bioenergy in Ukraine and, on the contrary, what impedes this development. Read more about Biomass to Energy conference in the "Energy. Oil and gas" article.

Happy to inform, that brochure "Development of biogas technology in Ukraine and Germany: normative - legal framework and prospects", Kyiv - Hyultsov - 2013 has been published.

CD with the proceedings of the Ninth International Conference on Biomass for Energy, September 24-25, 2013, Kyiv, Ukraine has been released. Proceedings include lists of participants from Ukraine, and foreign countries, abstracts and texts, presentations and posters in accordance to the program, which covered a wide range of issues related to biomass for energy.

Special Agency of Renewable Resources/FNR is the coordinator of the project BIO-PROM, funded by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) within the International Climate Protection Initiative (IKI). The project BIO-PROM is to support sustainable resources and use of bioenergy in the Russian Federation and Ukraine.

Detailed information about the project is available at the web-site and in the following Information Package and Аpplication form.

The purpose of the information package is to provide potential applicants complete information about

  • what type of bioenergy projects BIO-PROM consideres as promising,
  • how evaluation and selection of the most promising projects is organized, as well as
  • what services will be provided to selected projects.

This material was prepared by Yevhen Oliinyk after visit to the municipal CHPP in Petrikov , Gomel region of Belarus.

Priorities for energy development in Belarus and practical experience in the use of local fuels are shown on the example of communal mini-CHP plant in Petrikov, Gomel region. The 7.5 MW mini-CHP plant utilizes wood chips and sawdust as fuel. It supplies heat to 11 thousand residents of the district center, and also supplies electricity surplus to the electric grid.
