Ukraine consistently has been contributing to combating global climate change and supporting international community efforts aimed at limiting and reduction of anthropogenic emissions and increasing of GHG absorption in the atmosphere as well as currently:

- stresses the extreme necessity to establish the international regime on mitigation of climate change with involving of all major GHG emitters and in this context and based on achieved in Cancun agreements, seeks to negotiate and sign the global and comprehensive legally binding agreement that guarantees legal transparency, predictability, reciprocity and comparability in order to prevent a dangerous increase of a global temperature not more than 20C;

-shares the concern of the UN Security Council, expressed in the Chairman's statement S/PRST/2011/15 dated 20.07.2011, that the climate change can aggravate existing challenges to the international peace and security;

- welcomes the progress achieved with signing of the Cancun Agreements that creates a solid ground for further development of the aforementioned international regime;

- acknowledges and supports the need to develop international negotiations under UNFCCC and considers the Conference of the Parties in Durban as a platform to settle key issues regarding the second commitment period of the Kyoto Protocol and to achieve a significant progress regarding the legal form of the post-Kyoto climate architecture.
