SEC "Biomass" suggests to consider the proposition regarding the Voluntary Emission Reductions (VERs) purchasing from the CDM project in the Republic of Moldova (RM). The project has successfully passed through validation and obtained Letter of Approval. The actual date of project start-up is 1st of August 2010 when the first stage of the equipment has been put into operation. The regular monitoring of GHG emission reductions has been carried out from that date till now. The registration of the project at the CDM Executive Board is expected not earlier than 1st of December 2011.

On September 21, 2011 within 7th International Conference on Biomass for Energy there was held a Workshop "Landfill gas collection and utilization at Ukrainian MSW landfills: first results, problems and perspectives". Workshop was sponsored by Global Methane Initiative Program and the United States Environmental Protection Agency and covered the questions of landfill gas projects preparation and implementation in Ukraine.

The results of International Project "Ukrainian Carbon Market Facilitation Programme" financed by EBRD are officially available.

The Project was carried out by the consortium of consultants from Spain (Factor CO2, G?mez-Acebo & Pombo), and Ukraine (SEC "Biomass" and Vasil Kisil & Partners).

Project was initiated by EBRD in March 2009 and was aimed to provide Ukraine a technical assistance in climate financing and carbon market development.

Joint implementation project developed by SEC “Biomass” sold emission reduction units to foreign buyer!

October 11-th, 2011 successful transaction took place under Joint implementation project at Mariupol municipal solid waste landfill “Tis Eco Ltd.”. State Environmental Investment Agency of Ukraine performed transfer of corresponding quantity of generated emission reduction units from Ukrainian Carbon Units Registry to account of foreign buyer in Registry of Japan.

JI project developed by SEC “Biomass” for “Tis Eco Ltd.” generated and sold 13 617 tonnes of CO2 equivalent.

The project keeps operating and generating emission reduction units.

Ukraine temporary lost the eligibility for transactions of emission reduction units.

On the 12-th of October 2011 the participation of Ukraine in the flexible Kyoto Protocol mechanisms was partly cancelled. The decision was made on the 15-th meeting of the Enforcement Branch of Compliance Committee of UNFCCC after long-term analysis of Ukrainian Cadastre of GHG Emissions submitted in May 2011.

The decision of emission reduction transferring limitation is only applied to Track 1 JI projects. Track 2 JI projects and Green Investment Scheme projects did not suffer from the made decision. The possibility of transition from Track 1 to Track 2 is also still in place.

State Agency for investment and national projects of Ukraine in the framework of the National project “Energy of Nature” starts preparing for the implementation of the pilot project Construction of CHP on biomass in the Kiev region with a capacity of 2 MWe and 10 MWtt.

The basic idea of the project is to replace the consumption of natural gas in the district heating systems, and to improve the quality of services of heat supply, to develop internal market for biofuels, and to promote increased use of renewable energy sources in Ukraine.

One of key goals of the project is to attract investments in the field of bioenergy projects in Ukraine.
